Folded Pine Bark: From the Tree to the Basket

REGISTRATION OPENS APRIL 1st 2022

Back by popular demand and this time with an extra bonus! Typically I teach this workshop with already harvested and prepared bark. In this workshop we will peel the bark from a harvested white pine tree together before learning the art of making folded and sewn baskets. Each participant will learn the ins and outs of choosing bark, cutting and peeling it, making a pattern, and constructing a variety of different shaped vessels. This style of basketry is fun, fast, and provides opportunity to get creative with decoration, material, and construction. Each person’s project will turn out to be completely unique! Everyone will leave with 1-2 completed baskets, handouts on everything covered during the workshop and a new appreciation for the beautiful and abundant white pine tree. This is a wonderful opportunity to get hands on experience working with an incredibly flexible and versatile material that is locally abundant.

The workshop will be held outdoors in open air, or under tarps if there is a light rain to take precautions for Covid 19.

Details, dates, info about the weekend are below. If you want to sign up just click the register button below!

What does it look like to make a basket?

To see some examples of baskets and student experiences from single day workshops check out the blog posts below or visit my current/past workshops page. There is such an amazing array of students that take my classes and I’m always impressed with the creativity and individuality that comes out when a person sits down and allows themselves the time to make something beautiful with their hands.
