Folded Pine Bark Basketry

In this workshop we will learn the art of making folded and sewn baskets with white pine bark. Each participant will learn the ins and outs of choosing bark, making a pattern, and constructing a variety of different shaped vessels. This style of basketry is fun, fast, and provides opportunity to get creative with decoration, material, and construction. Each person’s project will turn out to be completely unique! Everyone will leave with 1-2 completed baskets (one medium sized basket with the opportunity to make some smaller ones if there is time) and a new appreciation for the beautiful and abundant white pine tree. This is a wonderful opportunity to get hands on experience working with an incredibly flexible and versatile material that is locally abundant.

The workshop will be held outdoors in open air. If the weather is bad then we will be inside my studio.

What does it look like to make a basket?

To see some examples of baskets and student experiences from single day workshops check out the blog posts below or visit my current/past workshops page. There is such an amazing array of students that take my classes and I’m always impressed with the creativity and individuality that comes out when a person sits down and allows themselves the time to make something beautiful with their hands.
