Plant Dyes and Twined Yarn Pouches with Katie Grove

Saturday and Sunday September 25th and 26th

In this two day workshop you will get both an introduction to plant dyes with locally foraged plants AND make a twined pouch. On Saturday we will focus on all the basics of processing and making plant dyes with seasonally available plants and dye several skeins of wool yarn in a variety of colors. On Sunday we will use the yarns we dyed on Saturday to make twined pouches. Twining is an ancient weaving technique that involves twisting two strands of yarn around warps using a template to maintain shape. We will cover both closed and open weave twining, stripes, patterns, and the addition of beads. Everyone’s bag will turn out completely uniquely depending on your aesthetic choices and will be approximately 3″ x 5″. You will leave with the knowledge and skills to create plant dyes and many more twined medicine bags of any size at home!

This workshop is open to all levels of student. Join us for a nourishing and relaxing weekend in an open and positive environment.

What does it look like to make a basket?

To see some examples of baskets and student experiences from single day workshops check out the blog posts below or visit my current/past workshops page. There is such an amazing array of students that take my classes and I’m always impressed with the creativity and individuality that comes out when a person sits down and allows themselves the time to make something beautiful with their hands.
