2023 Basketry Updates

Hello everyone! 2023 is going to be a big year for me. I’ll be focusing on writing, working on my own art, and developing future classes. To facilitate this I have made the difficult decision not to teach any public or private classes. This is a big leap for me and comes with both fear and excitement! Since I can’t imagine my life without at least some teaching I will still be offering one session of my Wild Basketry Series.

I’ve received so much support for this decision from past and current students and my heart is so full with gratitude. I’ll still be active on social media and sharing my progress with all my projects so please check in with me on instagram @Katiegrovebasketry.

Please know that you can still reach out to me about classes and I can put you on lists for next year or refer you to other teachers.

In gratitude, Katie

2023 Wild Basketry - 9 Class Natural Basketry Program with Katie Grove

Are you inspired to develop a deep connection to the art of basketry and the abundant plant materials in our natural landscape? Do you want to learn how to go out into the forests and fields, identify and gather materials, and weave baskets? Join this 9 month program to connect to your creative self and the natural world while learning the ancient skill of basketry.

Portfolio

In addition to teaching basketry workshops I am a practicing artist. Through intricate woven sculptures, watercolor paintings, and mixed media work I explore varied themes including material transformation, lineage, cycles of nature, and the voices of plants. See portfolio page for more.

About Katie Grove

Going out into the forests and fields, harvesting materials from nature, and sitting down in the sun to weave a basket is  my idea of a perfect day! I am an artist and educator based in the Hudson Valley of New York and my passion is to create art  that is inspired by nature. I also teach nature-based art workshops on basketry and plant dyes, where I create an environment in which individuals can explore self-expression while learning how to identify, use, and appreciate locally available natural materials. When I’m not teaching I am either working on my fine art, participating in gallery shows and residencies, or traveling.
